An investigator sponsored Phase I Trial led by Dr. Peter Hoskin is being conducted in the UK to examine ZYBRESTAT in combination with radiation therapy in prostate, lung and head and neck cancers.
Numerous preclinical studies have shown enhanced therapeutic effects when Zybrestat is used in combination with radiation therapy attributed to the fact that Zybrestat targets cells in the inner core of the tumor which is believed to contain cells that are resistant to radiation treatment.
Tolerability of the radiation and fosbretabulin combination was reported at ASCO in 2005. Synergy in biological effects was also predicted by preclinical observation, and the results on blood flow on DCE-MRI will be reported at the upcoming ASCO meeting.
Because EGF inhibitors such as Erbitux have anti-angiogenic activity, which may have synergy with fosbretabulin, Erbitux has been added to the last cohorts of participants with head and neck cancer.
