Home > About Us About Us OXiGENE is a biopharmaceutical company whose mission is finding (via discovery or in-licensing) and developing new and improved therapeutics that address the significant unmet medical needs of patients with cancer and eye disease. Our primary focus is developing and commercializing first-in-class and best-in-class vascular disrupting agents (VDAs) for the treatment of cancer and eye disease. OXiGENE's clinical-stage VDAs, ZYBRESTAT™ and OXi4503, exert anti-tumor effects via blood-supply deprivation: our VDAs specifically target established tumor vasculature, selectively cut off tumor blood supply, and thereby starve tumor cells of oxygen and nutrients necessary for survival. Blood-supply deprivation has been unequivocally validated as a therapeutic strategy with the approvals and successful commercialization of anti-angiogenic drugs that work by preventing development and growth of new tumor vessels. However, these drugs do not affect established tumor vasculature, leaving significant room for improvement and creating the opportunity for enhanced therapeutic benefits with the use of VDAs. OXiGENE's VDA product candidates have demonstrated significant potential in human clinical studies to date in cancer and eye disease. A key objective of the Company is to provide patients and physicians with first-in-class and best-in-class VDA products that improve upon existing treatment options and deliver enhanced therapeutic benefits.
